Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004
IDEA ensures accountability at the individual and system level for students with disabilities.
Accountability at the individual level is supported by the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Accountability at the system level is supported by participation in state and district-wide assessments based on grade-level content standards.
Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act
Section 504 prohibits federally funded programs and activities, including schools, from discriminating against individuals with disabilities.
Section 504 applies to a broad range of students with disabilities who may or may not qualify for special education services.
504 plans for students with disabilities often include the accommodations that may be used for assessment.
